Poem Stay©
I feel whispers breathing gently on me at night
Are they merely ghost removed from sight
Remembering yester years that have trickled away
Somehow they find me, haunting me night and day
Voices from a past that seems so long ago
Are they merely ghost removed from sight
Remembering yester years that have trickled away
Somehow they find me, haunting me night and day
Voices from a past that seems so long ago
Silhouettes dancing moving so soft and slow
Footsteps echo down the hall
They rattle the pictures on the wall
Sweet music drifts up and serenades
Leaves me shaken but so unafraid
The strings vibrate to the bones
To be felt by a woman even made of stone
For even she would thirst and hunger for more
Like the sand awaits the shore
A lingering presence so unexplained
You know it’s real because of the pain
Tears so softly fall when the wind gently calls
Whispers of your name travel through the night
Like the Swift who must remain in flight
But it too will die like all the rest
Oh but stay, cling to me like a child clings to his mother’s breast
Your heart was my harbor, one I could always trust
Stay and linger like a ghost if you must
Stay one more season, one more sunset
Stay without reason
Let me feel life like it used to be
