Poem Do You Remember© By Connie Hughes
Do You Remember©
Do you think of
those days so long ago?
Sometimes unwelcomed
they are, but the memories flow
They trickle down
like rain
Filling my heart
with laughter and pain
Do you ever want
to run, but unsure where you’d go
Run away from the
fire that burn’s through to the soul
Do you ever weep
for what could have been?
Like the day we
parted and called each other friend
In the quiet of
the day do you ever feel me near?
Like how I feel
you whispering in my ear
Do you remember
the touch of my skin?
Do you ever want
to go back to the way it was back then?
When days were
long, and nights were walks along the beach
Before time
marched on and removed you from my reach
Do you ever close
your eyes and see my face?
Every line and
curve do you want to trace
Do you ever want
to dance to those familiar tunes?
See only me in a
crowded room
Sip sweet wine in
a quiet place
Like we did before
this life became a race
Do you hear the
clock ticking away the hours of youth?
Harsh words but
merely the truth
Do you remember
young love and heart break?
Such sweet sorrow
and so hard to take
Didn’t we swear
this love would never end?
And through it
all, now I’m so glad I can call you friend.
