Free Cowl Scarf Crochet Pattern©

"Free Red Cowl Scarf Crochet Pattern©"
By Connie Hughes Designs©
Here's my free cowl scarf pattern that I made for a Christmas present...
it's quite pretty and super easy to make...You'll love how it feels and you'll really love how simple it is...it has a very elegant look to it...I made this scarf for my mother in law who just looks great in red...I hadn't been posting anything on my blog for awhile but that doesn't mean I haven't been working.  In fact I was so busy this Christmas making hats and scarves for family & friends...that is why I hadn't posted for awhile. But the holidays are over and it's time to get back to it...The yarn I used to make this scarf is from Hobby Lobby called I Love This Yarn it's very soft and has a nice bulk to it without being to bulky...it's a perfect yarn for hats and scarves.

I used about 4 Skeins of I Love This Yarn in Red (found at Hobby Lobby)
Yarn Weight: 4 - Worsted
Skein Yardage: 355 Yards
1 2" Decorative Button
J 6.0mm Hook

To make the Cowl: with I Love This Yarn in Red & J Hook
Be sure to count you're sts as you work
Ch74, join & ch4
Row 1. Sk the 1st 4 ch's, wk 1trc in the 5th ch from the hook, 1trc in each ch across, (like in the photo below) join & ch4.

Row 2. (When doing the post sts you want to sk the first st, but always wk one in the last st of the row) wk 1FPtrc in the 1st st, 1BPtrc in the next st, repeat all the way around (like in the photo's below),  join & ch4.

Row 3. 1trc all the way around, join & ch4.
Repeat rows 2-3 until your scarf is the desired width. It really is simple but it doesn't look it, it really looks elegant.
I made my cowl quite wide it was about 14" in width. I wanted it to also be worn on top of the head if desired.

To make the Cuff with the button: with Red Yarn & J Hook
Ch13
Row 1. wk 1dc in the 4th st from the hook, 1dc in the next 9, ch3 & turn.
Row 2. wk 1FPdc in the 1st st, 1BPdc in the next st, repeat all the way across, ch3 & turn.
-Repeat rows 1-2 until piece measures 7 to 71/2" in length, ch1 & turn.
-Wk 1sc in 10sts, ch1 & turn.
-wk 1sc in 3, ch4, sk 4sts, 1sc in 3, ch1 & turn.
-wk 1sc in 3, wk 4sc in ch4 space. 1sc in 3, ch1 & turn.
-dec1sc, 1sc in 6sts, dec1sc, ch1 & turn.
-dec1sc, 1sc in 4. dec1sc, ch1 & turn.
-dec1sc, 1sc in 2, dec1sc and FO.
Sew the button to the other end, wrap the piece around the scarf and secure with the button.

Spiced Walnut Recipe @ Connie's Spot© Great For Christmas Gifting!!

Spiced Walnut Recipe @ Connie's Spot©
Great For Christmas Gifting!!
Every year I make some goodies for my husband to give out to his accounts...
A few years ago I found a wonderful recipe...
I'm not sure where I got it, it has been so long now
and I have the recipe memorized...
These are not hard to make
and there easy to store and are really perfect for
gift giving or keeping they're so Yummy!

   "Spiced Walnuts"
I find great deals at our local WalMart on spices!
Here's what you need:
1 egg white
1 tablespoon water
2 cups walnuts
1/2 cup sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of ground allspice
Preheat oven to 225 F.
Line a large shallow baking pan with foil.
In a bowl, combine egg white and water, beat until foamy.
Add walnuts and toss to coat. Pour mixture into a
strainer and let drain for 2 to 3 minutes.
Combine sugar, cinnamon and allspice in a
plastic or paper bag, shake to mix. Add
the walnuts and shake vigorously to coat
the nuts. Spread the nuts in one layer
on the baking pan.

Bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
I used two timers...one I set for 1 hour
and the one for each 15 minutes...
Remove from oven and let cool stirring
occasionally and breaking the nuts apart
if they are stuck together.
Don't worry if they stick to the foil (they will)
it's easy to peel them off.
Store in a sealed container.
Makes 2 Cups

Little packages ready for Santa's delivery!!

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!!

Christmas Decorating Tips by Connie's Spot©

Fun & Easy Christmas Decorating Tips
By Connie's Spot©
This is a really cute way to display your Christmas Candy Canes!
I bought these little Ice skates from the grocery store a few
years ago...and hung them on the door...but they fell flat so this
year I stuffed them with a little tissue paper and placed my
candy canes in there...tie a pretty bow and now every guest leaving can
take a little sweet with them!
Super easy to make waterless snow globes...these are
so cute...I had these 3 cup cake domes that I wasn't using so
I made these for my kitchen!
Here's a great way to dress up your dessert buffet!
At night they just sparkle!
 Here's what you need:
Small Figurines & Trees found at:
Wal-Mart, Michaels, or Hobby Lobby
Scrap Book Paper or Card Board
Cotton Balls
Fake Snow
Scissors
Pencil
*On a piece of scrap book paper or card board, with a pencil take the
top part of the dome and trace around it
*Cut out the circle and lay it on the pedal stool
*Take cotton balls and spread them out
*Place figurines on the pedal stool
*Sprinkle some fake snow flakes & place dome on top
No glue, no water and no mess!

I'm not going to be moving mine around a lot...
but you can glue them down if you want to...
I didn't because these are the figurines from my Christmas Village!
And since I didn't glue them I can change them every so often!
They are very fun to look at and share with guests!
Who doesn't love a little snow scene at Christmas Time!
Here's to Fun & Easy Christmas Decorating!

Merry Christmas

Christmas Glittery Pine Cones Project By Connie's Spot©

"Christmas Glittery Pine Cones Project"
 By Connie's Spot©
Here are some really easy ways to decorate with stuff you probably
have around the house...I bought those yummy cinnamon scented pine cones
a few years ago and they lost their scent and were getting ugly
and very dried out...I didn't want to throw them out but
I didn't know what to do with them...then I remembered painting them when
I was a kid...So I got out my craft paint and glitter...and went to town!
I had this cute Snowman Hat Basket
so I filled it with wads of gift tissue
and laid my pine cones on top
sprinkled a little snow!

Here is every thing I used to make these
Merry Christmas Pine Cones
Most of this you can pick up at your local Craft Store mine was from Michaels
Americana & Craft Smart Craft Paint in: Red, Green and White
Small Glitter Tube by Creatology in: Red, Green and White
Tooth Picks, Glue, Paint Brush and some letters to spell out
Merry Christmas or anything you want to say!

I used some paper scrap book letters I had, they just
happened to be in Christmas Colors...
This is a great craft for the kids on one of those days
when the kids say " we're bored"
just be careful because some pine cones have
sharp points on them, you could snip them
off near the bottom...so the kids won't
hurt themselves...I used hot glue but you can
use any kind of glue you want...for the cones with the
letters I broke off a small piece of tooth pick and glued
it to the backs of my letters and then glued the
tooth pick down inside my pine cones!
Fill a pretty Christmas Bowl
I added some candles and used some of my Christmas China
I don't  use my Christmas tea cups often...so this is
a great way to bring them out of the cabinet!
I think this is so pretty!
So that's what I did with my old pine cones
If you have any cool ideas to decorate with
them, I'd love to see your pictures...
so please feel free to share.

♥Merry Christmas♥

How to Make Snow Globes by Connie's Spot©

 "Snow Globes"
How to Make Snow Globes by Connie's Spot©
I love snow globes...and I have thought about making some
for a long time now but I always find myself to busy doing something...
well not this year...so here are the one's I've made...
they are so pretty when the light hits them.

This little Bride & Groom is one of my favorites...
I got this figurine at Walmart.

This guy I love also...he cost a little more...
I got him at Michael's Craft Store,

The little trees are so simple, but look so pretty and only cost
.75 cents at Walmart!

I love this guy on the bike...he was to big to fit in any of
my jars...so my husband trimmed him a little in the
front and the back so he would fit...I love him.
This one reminded me of the story about the little girl
who wrote to Macy's asking if there really is a Santa...
so I had to have it!

This is a super tiny Nativity that fit inside this
baby food jar...well that is all I have for now...hope you get inspired
and try something you've wanting to do and just haven't found the
time to do it...best wishes to all and to all a good night!
How To Instructions:
First clean your jars inside and out...some of my jars
still had labels on them so I used Goo Gone...and it
really works!
With a little sand paper rough up the lids and
the back side of your figurines.
I put hot glue on the back of my figurine and on the lid...let
the glue really heat up...hold in place until the glue sets.
Use distilled water (I got mine at Walmart, and most of the figurines
came from there too, they were very inexpensive).
The glycerin will help with the glitter...
you can find it in the cake dept in most craft stores...
it makes the water a little thicker...
just add a few drops and stir...
fill the jars up pretty full.
I decorated my jars with trim, ribbons, rick-rack and buttons...I really
love how they look...and this is a super easy project...the little
one's will love helping you...just glue the stuff on and
watch the magic happen!
Kids love snow globes...you can even let the kids pick some of
their plastic toys and glue them down...those little Star Wars toys
would be perfect for some adorable little boy to make...and those little
plastic princess dolls for the girls...be creative and I hope you all have
a wonderful time making your
SNOW GLOBES
