Poem Mother© By Connie Hughes

Poem Mother© By Connie Hughes
With Mother's Day nearly upon us...I thought I would share my
Mother's Day poem with you...my mother passed a way when I was in
my early twenties and Mother's Day has always been so hard...there isn't a day
that goes by that my mom isn't in my thoughts and especially on this day!
So to all the Great Mom's out there...
Happy Mother's Day!

Mother thank you for all you did
Especially when I was just a selfish kid
I didn’t know your pain or the burdens you use to bare
My foolish heart thought you would always be there.

So many times I was so utterly blind
But when the world was harsh and friends were unkind
You were there to soften each and every blow
I didn’t know back then that you were a mere girl just like me
With a yearning heart begging at times to be wild and free.

Thank you for giving me the wee hours of the night
For holding me in loving arms until the morning light
Thank you for the bed time stories that you made so fun
Thank you for the long summer days we spent playing in the sun
Thank you for teaching me to ride my bike and helping me so
Knowing that perfect moment, when to let me go.

Thank you for a life time of birthday parties,
Christmas’s and Sunday dinners
For staying by my side when I was sick and scared
Thank you for the gentle kisses and brushing back my hair
Thank you for letting me yell and throw a fit every now and then
Thank you for not just being my Mother but for being my friend.

I still remember the sorrow of that day, when from this life you slipped away
And how my world nearly came to a end, but God had given me a baby
So I honored you by giving her what you had given me, a Mother!
